Best Mobile Reading App on Android
My reading needs are primarily met with the TutuApp and Amazon’s Kindle app. Since I have an Android tablet, I thought I’d see how it works with the rating. I wouldn’t rely on this particular pill to be my only source of rating material. At least, not yet; this is mainly due to the goodness of my tablet. I need an app that allows me to sync with Dropbox/Google Drive (or other cloud storage options) for backups.
Moon+ Reader App
It allows me to do what I mentioned above. Not because of this app, but because of my tablet. I dropped my notes a few times before I got it into my head to back them up. The free version allows you to replicate everything and then you just have to re-save after reinstalling Moon+ Reader after fixing your tablet/phone. It took me a few tries to figure out how to get the highlighting right. I’m not one to follow instructions until I try them myself. I don’t know if there are written instructions for Moon+ Reader or not.
I finally figured out that you want it; long tap on the text you want to highlight and you’ll see the color highlight the text with a start and end marker. It looks cumbersome and takes a lot more time than you’d like, but once you know how to do it, it’s a snap, and you’re ready to move on. Next, long-press where you want the annotation to go. You might see a box starting with the keyboard where you can sort your note. You might see a little translucent sticker on the document where you put the note. To deselect it, do the same thing with the markup, long press, and then sign ‘publish’ in the pop-up window.
Additional Marking Options
There are also many different options when it comes to long-form text. You can set it up to use Dictionary.com, or you can download dictionary files from some dictionary I haven’t heard of yet. I have the Merriam-Webster dictionary installed on my phone and tablet, I wish it was an option for this particular program to use this dictionary because it is reliable and well known. I finally realized that I had not set the options correctly. Visit a library and start posting. Turn the menu around and select “miscellaneous” and scroll through that menu of options to the end. Now, once you stop at the options and select “Save or Restore”, it will only back up your analysis/notes and featured items to Dropbox.
Mobile Usage
Open the app and restart the identical book. No time to get a new reading location, and the mark originally made on the tablet, removed on the phone, remains highlighted on the tablet computer. I haven’t figured out what’s wrong yet. All I know is that if I want to make sure the changes are saved every time, I can go into the menu and do a manual backup and then manually restore when I’m on another device. It’s not perfect sync. In my opinion, syncing should go both ways. If I take notes on my phone, they sync on the tablet. If I start the same book and edit those notes on the tablet, they should sync with the phone and be edited there.
So far, that’s not the case; if I make changes on my phone or tablet, they sync with another device. But if I make a change on that device, it doesn’t get written back to the first device.
